West Hawk Lake "exploded" into history when a meteorite hit the earth, leaving a huge crater as a reminder of its landing. In time, the crater filled up with water to form the deepest lake in Manitoba, West Hawk Lake. While the West Hawk area used to be a hotspot for those in search of gold, present day treasure-hunters now explore the lake's frontiers by scuba-diving. The town site features amenities like concession and grocery stores, gas stations, craft shops and boat rentals. Tour the geological museum or have a picnic at one of three day-use picnic shelters. Combine beachside camping with hiking, tennis, swimming, boating, fishing, or an interpretive program. Located in the Campground Fishing (license required), hiking (Rock Outcrop scenic walk), interpretive programs (amphitheatre and museum), kiosk, modern washrooms, pay showers, picnic areas, picnic shelter, pit privies, playground, scuba (near main beach), swimming (unsupervised beach), tennis (across from campground office), and water taps.
