Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park is a day use only park offering 2-hour, 4-hour, full-day or bus Advance Daily Vehicle Permits online (open May long weekend to October). This park is located approximately 12 km west off of the Trans-Canada Highway 11/17 and is well worth the short side trip to view this scenic natural wonder. A small parking lot is located at the bottom of the park road for visitors to view Gulch Lake's wetland with its birding opportunities. At the top of the road (steep hill) is a larger parking lot with a bus turning circle, privies, a picnic shelter, picnic tables, and the trailhead. The park's 1.7 km barrier-free hiking trail takes visitors to two scenic overlooks atop the 150-metre-wide gorge providing spectacular views of the canyon and its cliffs that drop 100 metres straight down to the canyon floor. Access to the canyon floor is not permitted to protect artic plants species usually found 1,000 km to the north.
